O&SCMA X ABC SUPPLY CO INC. Company Tour
The newly-formed Operations & Supply Chaim Management Association hosted its first event last Friday (March 15) at 10AM-12PM: A company tour with the San Jose branch of ABC Supply Co., the largest business-to-business roofing supplier in America. I attended it by recommendation of my BUS5-140 (Fundamentals of Operations Management) professor, and I learned a lot. It gave me a good picture on how many different people are involved in the supply chain process, what operations management entails, and a lot of good advice for management and speaking to clients. Although it leaned heavily on the business side of things (they don’t even use a CRM software; the outside sales representative does everything by hand except for Excel sheets to automate the quoting process), it was good for me to attend, and it was very directly related to an essential course in the MIS curriculum. Considering the dire state of tech recruiting this year, my professors have been encouraging me to pursue more business-facing roles, and this tour helped educate me further in that regard and expose me to the many career options open to me as a MIS major.
