Area Manager Intern
I interned at Amazon’s Turlock, CA facility (MCE1), where I worked in the PICK department. Amazon, a global leader in e-commerce and technology, operates fulfillment centers that handle a vast number of products for customers worldwide. The Turlock facility, like other fulfillment centers, is a fast-paced environment where products are stored, picked, and shipped efficiently. As an Area Manager Intern, my primary responsibilities included managing a team of associates, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring safety and quality standards were met. I was also tasked with driving efficiency within the warehouse by using data to identify operational bottlenecks and implementing improvements.
During my internship, I worked on several key projects. One major project involved analyzing operational data to identify inefficiencies in the fulfillment process. Based on my analysis, I implemented a macro that streamlined workflows in the PICK department, leading to an estimated annual savings of one million dollars for the facility. I also played a key role in promoting safety and quality initiatives by leading training sessions and ensuring that associates adhered to Amazon’s safety protocols. My efforts resulted in improved quality assurance metrics, a reduction in errors, and an increase in customer satisfaction. Additionally, I managed a team of associates, ensuring tasks were completed on time while maintaining high standards.
This internship provided me with hands-on experience in operations management, leadership, and data analysis, which closely relate to the concepts I’ve studied in my International Business courses. I applied principles from my coursework, such as process improvement, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making, to real-world situations. Furthermore, my experience leading teams in a high-pressure environment allowed me to develop strong communication and decision-making skills, which are essential for a successful career in business management. The opportunity to improve workflows, manage operations, and lead a team has deepened my understanding of business systems and reinforced my career aspirations in operations management.
