Building Trust
One important lesson was understanding the criteria for trustworthiness—competence and character. In an MIS role, I will need to build trust with both technical and business stakeholders to ensure successful project execution and data-driven decision-making. Additionally, learning about the impact of bias is important. Since MIS professionals often work with data and technology, it is important to recognize and mitigate bias in decision-making, whether in system design, data analysis, or team collaboration. The course also covered five key predictors of trust, which can help me build strong professional relationships when working with business leaders. Since MIS bridges the gap between IT and the business, effectively establishing trust with executives and end users can drive successful technology adoption.
Another valuable lesson is about sharing credit tactfully. In the business world, especially in roles that require cross-functional collaboration, effectively communicating credit can enhance credibility without seeming self-promotional. Understanding trust in teams, especially in virtual environments, is also important. Since MIS professionals often work in hybrid or remote teams, knowing how to foster trust across digital platforms is essential to increasing productivity and collaboration. Finally, learning about rebuilding trust reinforces the importance of accountability. If an MIS project hits a snag, addressing concerns transparently and taking corrective action can help maintain stakeholder trust.
