President of SJSU Women In Business
- Job function:
- Leadership and Planning: I am responsible for leading the organization, setting goals for the upcoming year, and ensuring the board’s alignment with these objectives. I delegate tasks for each officer team (Corporate, Marketing, Finance, Mentorship, Membership, Consulting) alongside the Senior Vice President so the Vice Presidents of each team can overlook their teams.
- Communication and Coordination: I facilitate regular 1:1 meetings and board meetings, ensuring effective communication within the team and with faculty advisors. I work alongside the Senior Vice President to communicate any updates or concerns to the faculty advisors regularly so everyone is in the loop to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization.
- Operational Management: I oversee administrative tasks, such as managing Google Drive, Slack channels, and passwords, as well as handling officer contracts and important documents. I ensure that all documents are for the organization to function legally at SJSU. I am currently taking operational management that focuses on the supply chain industry but the key takeaways still apply to my role in WIB.
- Membership and Recruitment: I inspire each officer, especially the Corporate, Finance, and marketing officers, to actively recruit new members, promote the organization, and oversee event-related activities. I delegate their tasks so they can navigate their role in building the WIB community with its members. I work alongside the SVP, who focuses on Membership, Consulting, and Mentorship, all related to providing valuable support for the members directly through what we have to offer.
- Yearly Planning and Transition: I accepted my President position at WIB over the summer of 2023. This required me to transition and adapt to the new year by planning for the upcoming year, including reaching out to potential successors and ensuring a smooth transition to the new board.
- Projects
- Recruiting new officers alongside SVP to build a strong WIB board & brand for this year.
- Encouraging every officer to contribute to the vision board for WIB and ensuring that every voice is heard.
- Updating our WIB advisors on our progress and goals after completing two months in my leadership role.
- Accomplishments
- Providing clear emphasis on the expectations for each leadership position.
- Working alongside SVP to help the new board transition into their roles, as all our previous board officers graduated.
- Relation to MIS
The work that I do as President of the Women In Business organization is closely connected to my major Business Admin. – MIS. as I utilize digital tools and platforms to streamline organizational operations. I rely on systems like Google Drive and Slack to efficiently manage documents and communication channels. Additionally, the use of Docusign for officer contracts and delegating financial management through Google Suite for tracking budgets demonstrates the integration of information systems in their role. Overall, this experience equips me with valuable skills in information management, digital communication, and organizational efficiency. These skills not only benefit my college life by enhancing my leadership capabilities but also have a lasting impact on my career, as I acquire expertise in utilizing information systems to streamline processes and make data-driven decisions, which is highly valuable in today’s technology-driven professional landscape. I encourage my various teams to utilize both marketing and finance data to track member retention. While this is not entirely MIS-related, this correlates to the Fundamentals of MIS course where we are navigating the importance of data.
