LL Course 3: Effective Listening (1 hour 4 minutes)

1. What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this learning module).

This LL Course was about Effective Listening. What I learned about effective listening:

Active Engagement: Be present in the conversation, focusing not just on the words but also the tone and body language. Avoid distractions and demonstrate attentiveness through nodding or verbal affirmations like “I see” or “I understand.”

Open-Mindedness: Set aside judgments or preconceived notions to fully grasp the speaker’s perspective. Avoid interrupting or forming responses while the other person is still speaking.

Clarification and Feedback: Summarize or paraphrase what the speaker said to ensure accurate understanding. Asking open-ended questions can also help clarify points and encourage deeper discussion.

Non-Verbal Cues: Maintaining eye contact, an open posture, and leaning slightly forward can signal to the speaker that you are engaged. This non-verbal feedback reassures the speaker of your interest.

Patience and Silence: Allowing moments of silence gives the speaker time to gather their thoughts and express themselves fully without feeling rushed.

Empathy: Try to understand the emotions behind the words, demonstrating genuine concern or interest in what the speaker is feeling.
