Delta Sigma Phi, Vice President

  1. In my position as Vice President of Delta Sigma Phi, Gamma Epsilon Chapter, I am in charge of all internal operations of the chapter, helping manage a $500,000 yearly budget for an organization with over 100 undergraduate individuals, raised through chapter dues, fundraising, and alumni donations. I manage all 24 chairmen, planning events ranging from recruitment, formal, professional development workshops with executives from Fortune 100 companies, new member education, community service, academic planning, and more. I hold weekly meetings one-on-one with each chairman in order to ensure the execution of all of our planned tasks, as well as a weekly chairmen meeting on Sunday’s brainstorming ideas as a collective and implementing changes we want to see within the organization. I also have monthly meeting with executives from our national organization, ensuring that our chapter is planning events aligned with national recommendations, as well as planning new events coordinated alongside our nationals.
  2. Some of the most successful events I have helped plan and coordinate are as formals:
  • A retreat for our organization with a budget of $22,000, provided for over 60 members of our organization. I helped to plan our full itinerary, which included several organizational bonding activities such as Snowboarding at NorthStar Ski Resort, hiking with over 60 of our members at heavenly ski resort trails, food for the entire three-day trip, and more.
  • Our fraternity formal event, an overnight awards ceremony and banquet celebrating our organization’s members and allowing a night to spend with their significant other’s. We stayed at the Hilton in Scott’s Valley, and it was a two-night trip, consisting of a $25,000 budget, and a formal event for 75 of our members and 75 guests, 150 total people. Our formal event had a banquet awards ceremony the first night where we celebrated the achievements of many of our members, enjoyed an excellent three course meal, and had a professional DJ as well as a photobooth.
  • I planned our last two full fraternity recruitments, successfully bringing in over 40 new individuals to our organization. These recruitment periods each consisted of five events each. Each recruitment period also saw over 500 individuals come out to our events at each of the recruitment seasons.
  • I helped to successfully plan our parent’s day, where we highlighted our organizations core values and key achievements to the parents of the members of our organization. We held a successful event, where over 40 families came to our chapter house. We held an open house for both our organization’s parents and our neighboring Sororities, where we cooked carne asada tacos, and showed various videos around the house highlighting our organization’s achievements.
  1. This position has helped me develop and learn many new skills that relate to my major and desired career path, my position operates similar to a project manager for our fraternity, and one day I want to be a technical project manager/product development manager. I have better developed my leadership ability, as I have to provide guidance to each chairmen position and motivate them to do their job to the best of their ability even though their position is not paid. I oversee the initiation, planning, execution, and result of each event for our fraternity and coordinate every date of each event within the semester. The most transferable skills I see coming from this position is my leadership skills and ability to communicate with a wide variety of people.
