Learning Data Science: Ask Great Questions
In this course, I learn more about the importance of asking critical questions and how I can create critical questions to uncover valuable information and ideas for businesses.
When looking at data, I have to be aware of my own bias and always ask myself:
- “Why” do I think that argument is true?
- “How do I know” that my reasoning is true?
- “What does the research say” about my argument?
This doesn’t just apply to myself, but also when I evaluate someone else’s reasoning. Critical questions should address the potential weaknesses of the argument.
In this course, I have also learned about “Question Trees”, which I have applied to organize ideas for my position as the upcoming Vice President of the SJSU VR Club.
- I write my central question about my ultimate goal for the club’s social meetings, public relations events, and recruitment on a big whiteboard with a red marker.
- From that 1 central question, I create smaller questions to break down my ideas with a black market.
- Then, I write down ideas based on the questions with a blue marker.
- With my ideas on the whiteboard, I can easily share them with other club officers and have their inputs in green color.
With the Question Trees approach, I can also run meetings that encourage everyone to have critical thinking and ask lots of questions.
