University Dance Theatre
Completed a full year of being on the University Dance Theatre Pre-Professional Repertory Dance Troupe with SJSU’s Dance Program.
This consisted of performing in a show at the end of each semester that ran 2 hours long with two shows each night and two days of shows for a total of four performances or 8 hours of dancing per show. We rehearsed every Monday-Thursday from 3:30-5:50PM with the addition of Fridays and 8-10 hour rehearsal days on the weekends when guest choreographers came for residency to set choreography on us. We worked with four groups of external choreographers and learned two pieces from our director. This involved adapting to different professional working environments and directors, managing time, and working diligently to improve and grow throughout this year.
We also had the opportunity to travel to the Northwest American College Dance Association (ACDA) Conference where I had the opportunity to take class from 10 new instructors in various styles and we competed against all the other Northwestern Colleges part of the program. Our school\’s two pieces were the two that were selected in a blind adjudication from our first round to perform in the final gala (though one got disqualified for going over the time limit by 7 seconds). This experience taught me so much from learning from and experiencing other schools and interpretations of dance.
Additionally, I was the appointed as the Lead Liaison who would handle communications between the director and the team of 12 dancers to resolve potential conflicts and coordinate needs.
