The Importance of Having an E-Portfolio
An e-portfolio allows students to have a mini-website that employers can look at to get a well-rounded idea of who that students is and what their skills are. An e-portfolio is a great compliment to a resume. Moreover, having a professional-looking e-portfolio has afforded me numerous opportunities, including the ability to attend small group meetings with executives, and even interview for internships.
IT Awards
The best event that the MIS Department holds all year is undoubtedly the IT Awards. The awards is a great opportunity for MIS students to network with professionals and recognize their peers and faculty for the outstanding work that they do. Select students are invited to small group sessions with the year’s industry winners, where they can have an up close and personal converation with the guest. It really is a night for celebrating all the achievements of our department, and of those who contribute to make it so highly acclaimed.
AIS National Competition
Last spring, I had the pleasure of attending the AIS National Competition and Leadership Conference at Indiana University. The conference is when AIS chapter from around the world meet to compete, netowork, and most importantly, learn from each other. The event allowed me to see the great things that other AIS chapters are doing for their members, and some of what we’ve implemented in AIS this year is based on other chapters’ ideas. The conference was also great as an MIS major because I was able to hear from some industry leaders in the tech and business fields. The conference was a great way to see where the IT space is going, and who the next leaders will be.
