CyberFest 2024 – “How I Would Hack You & How to Stop Me” with Rachel Tobac
I attended my company’s Cyberfest event on Thursday, October 11th on Hacking. During the session, our speaker Rachel, gave us insights into a better understanding of how to safeguard our data, our company’s systems, and personal information from cyber threats. This was led by our InfoSec group and by my work mentor and sponsored by my company. One of the key things that I learned was that as much as I think I keep my information secure, I’m not as secure as I thought I was I found my email addresses on 6 different sites. One of the things that stood out to me was how real voice hacking and vocal spoofing are, even at the beginning stages that most are right now. I learned how hackers use this to pretend to be company executives and get important information – most hackings are from human error. This is vital for my role in MIS because the training itself is part of the management piece: training people on how to not leak data and also identifying and tackling threats as they pop up by keeping up to date. I enjoyed the session and plan to attend additional sessions during Cyber Security Awareness Month.
