Associated Students – Director of Business Affairs

Job function (overall role, assigned tasks):
As the Director of Business Affairs, I led the Operations Committee and oversaw key organizational processes that supported students, campus partners, and Associated Students (AS). My responsibilities included managing operational workflows, coordinating policy updates, improving student-facing procedures, and collaborating with committee members to ensure efficient and equitable support for student organizations.

Examples of projects:

  • Revamped the AS scholarship selection process to make it more transparent, accessible, and consistent.
    • Updated application guidelines, standardized evaluation criteria, and streamlined reviewer communication to improve fairness and applicant experience.

  • Streamlined the AS funding process for student organizations.
    • Simplified documentation requirements, clarified funding guidelines, and introduced clearer communication channels so student orgs could navigate the process more efficiently.

  • Led the Operations Committee in evaluating and improving internal workflows.
    • Organized meetings, delegated tasks, and coordinated cross-committee collaboration to ensure policy updates and operational decisions were executed smoothly and on schedule.

What I learned and how it relates to my major:
This role strengthened my skills in operations management, policy development, and organizational leadership—directly connecting to coursework in management, business process improvement, and organizational behavior. By redesigning student-facing systems, I gained hands-on experience in analyzing inefficiencies, implementing structured solutions, and leading teams through change. The experience also enhanced my communication, project management, and stakeholder collaboration skills, all of which are essential in business environments focused on service delivery and operational excellence.
