Effective Listening
This course taught me listening isn’t just hearing it’s about being fully present and showing the other person that you value what they’re saying. The course went over techniques like minimizing distractions, using body language to show you’re engaged, paraphrasing to confirm understanding, and asking open-ended questions. It also talked about avoiding the habit of planning your response while someone is talking which I know I do sometimes. For my MIS major these skills are really important because so much of project work comes down to understanding requirements, making sure nothing gets miscommunicated, and building stronger relationships with people.
