Live Analytics Interface Project
This was part of an ongoing series of projects in my BUS 110A (Fundamentals of MIS) course. This project specifically leveraged technical skills in python to create a menu for a business owner to navigate through different analytics presented in a previous report. The report provided actionable insight to increase revenue and reduce items that were harming profitability.
Working on this project taught me so much about how data drives business decisions. I learned how to analyze a dataset to uncover insights like which categories and products are profitable, where sales are strong or weak, and how discounts impact performance. Writing Python code for tasks like grouping and visualizing data really deepened my understanding of tools like pandas and Matplotlib, and it was satisfying to see how these tools can make raw data tell a story. I also got a taste of what it’s like to present actionable recommendations—like reducing discounts or targeting low-performing regions—which made me feel like I was contributing to real-world financial strategies. Overall, this project was a great blend of technical skills and business thinking, showing me how MIS bridges the gap between IT and decision-making. This is also a project I leveraged very recently in an interview to showcase my skills to recruiters.
