The AM Craft App Proposal

The primary goal of the project was to provide a solution for small business. We decided to work with the locally known coffee across from campus, The AM Craft. We proposed to create an online-ordering platform to:

  1. Increase order volume and revenue by providing an order-ahead feature.
  2. Enhance customer experience and satisfaction by reducing wait times and improving convenience.
  3. Expand the customer base by attracting busy professionals and students who value time-saving solutions.
  4. Strengthen the cafe’s competitive edge in the crowded downtown San Jose market while maintaining its unique personal brand.

How Was the Goal Achieved?

  1. Analysis of Current Challenges:
    • Identified the reliance on walk-in customers as a limitation to growth.
    • Highlighted the competition from larger corporations with advanced ordering systems.
  2. Proposed Solution:
    • Designed a mobile app with features like:
      • Order ahead and menu browsing.
      • Mobile payment integration (e.g., Apple Pay).
      • Real-time order tracking and estimated pick-up times.
  3. Implementation Plan:
    • Developed a timeline and tasks (e.g., research, prototyping, testing, and launch).
    • Created a prototype demonstrating the app’s user interface and functionality.
  4. Evaluation and Impact:
    • Demonstrated potential tangible benefits like increased sales and reduced costs.
    • Highlighted intangible benefits such as improved customer and employee satisfaction.
  5. Business Viability:
    • Conducted financial analysis (e.g., ROI, NPV, break-even analysis) to show the app’s feasibility and value.

What Would I Learn?

  1. System Development Life Cycle (SDLC):
    • Practical experience in planning, analyzing, designing, implementing, and refining a technology solution.
  2. Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Addressing real-world business challenges by integrating technology with operational needs.
  3. Data-Driven Decision Making:
    • Leveraging user research, competitive analysis, and financial projections to guide project decisions.
  4. Technology-Driven Value Creation:
    • Understanding how a custom mobile app can improve operational efficiency and customer engagement.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Working in teams to coordinate tasks, present solutions, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  6. Business and Technical Alignment:
    • Balancing technical feasibility with business goals to provide a solution that drives growth and aligns with the client’s brand.
