Diversity Equity and Inclusion Panel
The DEI panel was held at SJSU in the theater. This event took place on Friday, October 11.
The DEI panel was an insightful experience that deepened my understanding on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in today’s school and workspace. I had not previously heard of DEI so this panel has taught me a lot. The panelists covered a wide range of topics, from the need to recognize and address systemic discrimination to the practical steps organizations and individuals can take to create more inclusive environments. As a college student preparing to enter the workforce, the panel provided valuable perspectives on how to approach DEI not just as a concept but as an actionable framework .
One of the most significant lessons I took from the panel was the perspective they brought on diversity. Diversity is not just creating a mix of different backgrounds in the workspace; it is about creating spaces that can hold the full range of experiences, identities, and perspectives that an individual brings to the workplace. I learned that diversity also involves acknowledging trauma and the available resources that people may have external challenges with. This was an eye-opening point because it highlighted the emotional perspective of workplace inclusivity. I realized a diverse workplace is one that values not only visible differences like race or gender but also the more subtle, internal struggles that people carry with them.
