Effective Listening

Through this module, I learned how to utilize effective listening behaviors in improving my productivity as well as positively influencing my connection with others. Not practicing these skills can easily allow us to get side-tracked which would not only decrease our productivity as we cannot give our full attention, but leave the opposite party feeling dismissed by our actions. Instructor Bailey-Hughes and Kolovou also showed non-verbal actions which would help us improve the way we present ourselves to make sure the opposite party feels well heard.

This module is helpful for my major because it involves communicating and collaborating with others. Networking is a necessity in business which mainly revolves around collaboration, communication, and overall good relationships. Without being aware and active in my body language and conversational cues, it would be difficult for me to build strong connections with a team. Emphasized in the videos, whether intentional or not, non-verbal cues are as important as verbal cues which can determine the foundation of your relationship with others.
