Building Trust (2018)

1. What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this learning module).

In this module I learned how to build trust within relationships in a business setting. The video covered some small but powerful ways to build trust with someone else such as being aware of your body language, vocabulary, and tone of voice. The module also covered more long-term things that one can develop to build trust with another person. One of the examples that the speaker gave that resonated with me was “aligning your behaviors with your spoken values”. Personally, I tend to trust people less when they claim that they are going to do one thing and I find out that they are not sticking to their word. This relates to my major of MIS because MIS can be strongly dependent on client relations. It is better to have your client trust you because if they don’t, they may find someone else to do business with. Building trust is also important within a company because you don’t build trust with your peers or your boss, they won’t assign you any work and eventually you may be laid off because of their lack of trust in you.
