Effective Listening
From Effective Listening by Brenda Bailey-Hughes and Tatiana Kolovou, I learned that listening is an active skill that goes beyond simply hearing words — it requires attention, filtering distractions, and responding thoughtfully. The course taught me how mental filters can create assumptions, how to apply paraphrasing techniques to ensure understanding, and how to listen with specific intentions depending on the context. This connects directly to my Management Information Systems (MIS) major because effective listening is critical when gathering business requirements, working with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that both technical and business perspectives are clearly understood. By strengthening my listening skills, I am better prepared to analyze problems, collaborate with stakeholders, and design solutions that align with organizational needs.
